What Happens During a Thyroid Ultrasound?
You will generally lie on your back with your neck slightly extended.
A clear ultrasound gel is applied to the front and sides of your neck. The sonographer then moves a small high-frequency ultrasound transducer over the thyroid region to obtain detailed images.
You may feel mild pressure from the transducer, but the examination is generally well tolerated.
The scan usually takes approximately 15ā25 minutes.
Does a Thyroid Ultrasound Use Radiation?
No.
Thyroid ultrasound uses sound waves rather than X-rays or ionizing radiation.
